by way of introduction...this is only a test
i have finally decided to begin a blog site although it remains to be seen how well i will maintain it. i am already at the end of my second month of work with nary a word from me....i haven't written in my journal or sent out a general news letter since arriving in europe. hopefully this will change.
i am new to this blogger stuff although i am already unimpressed with the limited font selection. i have become a helvetica addict and now must succumb to its digital impostor, arial.
i am in provence at the moment, following a short tour in normandy and the giro d'italia. i leave for tuscany tomorrow....
the giro was surprisingly fun for a grand tour. i am really really REALLY pleased with my decision to not do the tour de france this year. i am watching the preparations right now and don't regret a thing. having that replaced with the giro felt a bit daunting at first but i'm glad i was able to see it. the riding was some of the most difficult i have done but a colleague inspired me with her attitude towards it all. she maintains her own riding pace no matter what is going on and makes no apologies for it. so i followed suit and didn't allow myself to get too stressed about it and just tried to enjoy myself. it was stunningly beautiful and even though i had to endure climbing 4 mountain passes in one ride, it was one of the most beautiful rides i have ever seen. once i figure out how to post photos, i will try and illustrate my point.
the other elements were aligned to have a good time. our group was a really great bunch of people and the teams of guides were fun. our last night in milan, at the end of the tour, was a blow out. we went dancing in a club and stayed out ridiculously late. it was pretty messy but incredibly cathartic.
i am going to cut this short until i know that i have figured out how to work this thing.
