it has been a while since i have shown my face on this page. i don't know that i can blame it all on a busy work life. i have just been occupying myself with other things. but i wanted to take a crack at catching up now....i am back in tuscany to finish off the season here. it is definitely autumn around here, as the vineyards and deciduous trees are turning colours quickly with the brisk mornings. the harvest is beginning and the deep purple sangiovese grapes look heavy on the vines. my new love: brunello di montalcino, especially from 2001. what a treat! and i am looking into shipping some home. the experience needs to be shared....
back in july, the heat was unbelievable. the sun was intensely bright and strong and glorious. the grapes were barely visible on the vines at that time.
the landscape is sweeping hillsides, bare from the first wheat harvests before my arrival. always a single farmhouse on the crest of the wave and open fields around them.clay soils exposed, the infamous cyprus trees lining the laneways, and the umbrella pines for a change in direction. it really is a spectacular area.
unfortunately i lost a huge number of photos recently due to a technical glitch [oh, there are always pros and cons to this digital thing] but here is a visual [albeit incomplete] summary of life here so far, in no particular order. i will try to capture some more before i leave here. a photo of my favourite cyprus tree is forthcoming.....
i will move on to my time in ireland and croatia. stay tuned.
